Windows on Earth

See Earth Through the Astronauts’ Lens

Lead Staff:

Summary

Windows on Earth was an educational project that featured photographs taken by astronauts on the International Space Station. Astronauts took hundreds of photos each day, for research, education and public outreach. The photos were often dramatic and help us all appreciate home planet Earth. It also responded to the need to improve public understanding of key issues in Earth science and their connections to daily life. It harnessed the power of visualizations (e.g., images, animations, video) to engage, inform, and support public understanding of these issues. This web site provided free public access to virtually all of these photos, updated at least weekly. The site was operated by TERC, and selections were featured in the “Perspectives of Earth” on the McAuliffe Center at Framingham State website. All images are in the public domain, credit NASA.
