Viviendo Matemáticas Program Shows Impact and Releases Free Activity Guides
The Viviendo Matemáticas project is demonstrating how meaningful collaboration between educators and families can support young children’s mathematical learning. The program brings together educators and Spanish-speaking caregivers of preschool-age children to explore early math through conversation, shared experiences, and hands-on activities.
Findings from two years of pilot research show that the program is highly engaging, helps broaden ideas about what mathematics looks like in early childhood, and strengthens relationships between educators and families. The project has also provided new insights into how programs can support more equitable partnerships between schools and communities while recognizing the mathematical knowledge that already exists within families.
As part of the project, the team developed a set of bilingual (Spanish/English) activity guides based on the hands-on math activities used during the program meetings. These guides are now available for free download, providing educators and families with accessible ways to support young children’s early math learning at home and in the classroom.
