TERC Researchers Share Joyful Approaches to Family Math Learning at the 2026 NAFSCE National Assembly
TERC Senior Researchers Audrey Martínez-Gudapakkam and Sabrina De Los Santos Rodríguez presented Family Caregivers Learning and Teaching Math Through Joy at the 2026 National Assembly for Family Engagement in Education, held virtually October 26–27 and in person October 28–30 in San Diego, California.
Their October 30th session highlighted how a successful mathematics professional development program for paraeducators evolved into a workshop designed to help family caregivers, including parents and relatives, engage children in mathematics through playful learning experiences.
The approach empowered participating caregivers to share what they learned with other families, creating opportunities for children and adults to explore mathematics together through engaging math games.
The National Assembly brought together education professionals and advocates to share ideas, research, and practices that strengthen family engagement in education.
