TERC Experts Publish Groundbreaking Resource on Teaching Early Algebra to Improve Students’ Ability in Mathematics
New book by Maria Blanton, Angela Murphy Gardiner offers insight, practical guidance to help teachers empower young learners to think algebraically, leading to later mathematical prowess
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 8, 2026 – Teaching K-5 students algebraic concepts is critical to their mathematical success in later grades, TERC experts Maria Blanton and Angela Murphy Gardiner have found. Their new book, “Early Algebraic Thinking in Action,” published by Corwin, demonstrates how building algebraic understanding from an early age creates a solid foundation for later mathematical achievement.
