Presentation Title: Project LEAP: Early Algebra, Big Thinking: Strengthening Mathematical Reasoning in the Elementary Grades

Summary: In this session, we will use our research-based approach to early algebra to help teachers understand how to build authentic early algebra experiences in their regular classroom practice. We’ll look at video vignettes of elementary students engaging in these practices and the evidence of student learning. Our session will build teachers’ content knowledge of early algebra, including the ways that tasks can promote students’ conceptual understanding of early algebraic ideas. It will also highlight effective teaching practices that naturally support algebraic thinking.
