Come learn how to design camouflaged making-based assessment tasks. Assessments are often necessary for justifying making-based education to stakeholders, but traditional assessments are rarely aligned with the values and learning goals of making programs.
In this workshop, participants will explore and learn how to develop hands-on, validated, culturally responsive assessments designed for youth in making-based learning programs including out of school settings. We will engage participants in designing their own assessments to match their settings and programs. Multiple media will be provided for brainstorming and prototyping assessments. Participants will leave the session with principles for developing making-based assessments, four assessments and scoring rubrics that our team has created, an assessment they have drafted, and first version assessments from others in the workshop.
