Biography

Teon Edwards has spent over 25 years at TERC developing, designing, and researching numerous STEM curricula, experiences, exhibits, tech tools, and games for both formal and informal education settings. She has a background in astrophysics, mathematics, and education and a Master’s Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), focusing on the use of technology and multimedia in teaching and learning. Throughout her work, she has often served as the conduit between education and technology development partners, often serving as bridge between them.

Teon is Director and co-founder of the Educational Gaming Environments Group (EdGE) at TERC, and Chair of TERC’s Center for STEM Teaching and Learning (CSTL). She oversees these working groups, leading strategic planning, proposal efforts, cross-project communication and collaboration, and line-of-work development, as well as day-to-day logistics and tasks. With a strong commitment to equity, innovation, staff engagement, and impact, Teon works to build supportive, inclusive, and effective environments for both EdGE and the CSTL work unit, enabling the individuals, teams, and projects to achieve their goals.

Her current project work focuses on the uses of AR, VR, and AI for STEM learning, as well as extending the impact of the game Zoombinis. For example, on her NSF project, UniVRsal Access: Broadening Participation in Informal STEM Learning for Autistic Learners and Others through Virtual Reality, she is co-designing, developing, and disseminating the STEM-based virtual reality game, Europa Prime, for a broad audience, including players with sensory, attention, and/or social differences, and she’s researching the potential for VR and AI to positively impact neurodivergent—reaching all—learners.

At TERC, she has served on numerous committees, including the Salary Committee, Board Finance Committee, and Senior Leadership Council. Also, she was a member and then Chair of TERC’s IRB, including overseeing the committee’s transition to the Final Rule legislation and regulations in 2018.
