Code in Motion by SPARKS is driven by the community for the community. In the fall of 2025 and again in spring 2026, with as needed virtual sessions between, residents of Umeya, a permanent supportive housing complex, and other Skid Row community members joined Heather, Kelly, and Coach for paid computer science and facilitation training. Participants explored computational thinking, Scratch, and both plugged and unplugged Zoombinis logic puzzles and related activities. Community Coaches now facilitate various out of school time experiences hosted by Coach Ron of the Fun Zone Reading Club.

Community Coach Training

Code in Motion by SPARKS supports both children and adults learning to code. Our Community Coach training has introduced adults from the Skid Row community to coding. They have learned how to bring coding instruction and activities to children and families.
