It means identifying the components in a system,&nbsp;exploring&nbsp;how they are connected&nbsp;and&nbsp;how these connections produce the behavior of the system.&nbsp;It is&nbsp;central to understanding climate change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/2.-Feedback-Loops.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Feedback Loops&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Feedback loops within the climate system can lead to an acceleration of global warming&nbsp;or slow it down.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/3.-How-earths-systems-move-heat-energy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How&nbsp;heat energy moves through&nbsp;Earth\u2019s systems&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solar energy entering&nbsp;Earth&#8217;s climate system&nbsp;is moved&nbsp;around our planet&nbsp;by complex processes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"46\" height=\"21\" src=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/Three_Dots.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-110\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Water<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/4.1-Oceans.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oceans<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oceans play a key role in both storing and moving heat around the planet.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/4.2-Water-Cycle.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The water&nbsp;cycle&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The water cycle\u00a0refers to\u00a0how water moves\u00a0locally and globally. Every stage in the water cycle involves a large\u00a0transfer of heat energy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"46\" height=\"21\" src=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/Three_Dots.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-110\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Air<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/5.1-Air.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Air&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gases in air are components of our atmosphere. The atmosphere plays a major role in storing, releasing, and moving heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/5.2-The-Greenhouse-Effect.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Greenhouse Effect&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The greenhouse effect&nbsp;refers to the warming of Earth\u2019s surface and atmosphere through&nbsp;the trapping of solar energy in greenhouse gases &#8211;&nbsp;water vapor,&nbsp;carbon dioxide, methane, and others.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/6.-Plant-Life.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Life&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Living things \u2013 collectively the biosphere \u2013 plays a role in the climate system.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"46\" href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/9.1-Mitigation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mitigation&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do we slow or minimize&nbsp;climate&nbsp;change?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terc.edu\/buildingsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/07\/9.2-Adaptation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"
