Signing Science Dictionary

Topics: Life Science, Biological Science, Integrated Science

For the Signing Science Dictionary, TERC, in collaboration with Vcom3D, is using the SigningAvatar accessibility software to develop an interactive 3D sign language dictionary of science terms and definitions to support access to standards-based science content among elementary and middle-grade students who are deaf or hard of hearing and whose first language is sign. This work is funded in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation (HRD-0533057).

A prototype 300-word version of the Signing Science Dictionary that will combine seamlessly with the version under development is available for use at no cost. To access the prototype dictionary, please go to the Signing Science website.

The SigningAvatar has also been incorporated into three units in the EnViSci Network series, published by Charlesbridge, to make them more accessible to students who are deaf and hard of hearing and whose first language is sign. To access the units, click here.
