DLESE Data Services - Earth System Science Data in Education
Principal Investigator: Tamara Shapiro Ledley
Topics: Earth and Space Sciences
Grade Levels: Elementary, Middle School, High School
Through the Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE), this project is organizing workshops that bring together Earth science data providers, developers of data access and analysis/exploration tools, and developers of educational resources to guide the development of effective and usable data access and analysis tools and educational modules that access these tools and data.
The workshops will result in two reports and new chapters of the Earth Exploration Toolbook (EET). One report will guide tools developers in further data access and analysis tools development. The second report will provide teachers with information about available datasets and tools and ideas for using them in educational modules. The new EET chapters will present educators and students with step-by-step instructions for using Earth science datasets and data analysis tools. In addition, the project is conducting surveys to identify Earth science data needs of the educational community and to identify existing resources that use Earth science data to be cataloged in DLESE. Funded by the National Science Foundation.
