Mixing in Math: Transforming the Role of Math in Afterschool Programs

TERC, collaborating with the YMCA, Girls Inc., the St. Louis Science Center, BELL, and Citizen Schools is developing and implementing an engaging and accessible approach to integrating math into the routines and activities that constitute a solid youth development program. The project is: developing materials (activity book and workshop manual) enabling staff to integrate math into after-school programming such as cooking and sports; supporting implementation; supporting institutionalization and dissemination of materials throughout well-established after-school networks; conducting evaluation research on impact of project activities. Project activities will reach at least 330 programs, 8,500 staff, and 38,000 children. Funded by the National Science Foundation.
