The Chèche Konnen Center at TERC is collaborating with a K-8 faculty to investigate ways of developing a professional learning-in-practice community in which teachers learn to use their everyday practice as a terrain of analysis and action. The practice-based approach project researchers are investigating is organized around the goal of developing teachers’ capacity to see and teach to the intellectual strengths of all children, especially those from historically non-dominant communities. A distinctive feature of the Learning in Practice approach is the integration of subject matter understanding, student sense-making, and historically structured inequalities rooted in race, culture and language on the same plane of professional inquiry.
