Biographical Summary

James K.L. Hammerman, (Jim) is a Senior Researcher/ Developer/ Evaluator who co-leads the Evaluation Group at TERC. Dr. Hammerman has been a mathematics educator, researcher and evaluator for over 25 years. He helped to create and conduct mathematics professional development opportunities in the SummerMath for Teachers, Math for Tomorrow, and VISOR projects. He wrote curriculum materials for the Seeing and Thinking Mathematically, Visualizing Algebra and Model Chance projects, and led technology efforts for the revision of Investigations.

In addition to his own research on data and statistics learning and on the impact of adult developmental differences on teachers' professional learning, Dr. Hammerman has designed and led a number of formative and summative evaluation projects. These include a national needs assessment for NOAA’s National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS), and evaluations of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation’s BioTeach program, KCP Technology’s Data Games project, and EDC's Transition to Algebra project, among others.
