Fostering a Lifelong Engagement with Mathematics and Science

Every student deserves access to engaging, rigorous curricula. Our materials are developed using data about the types of approaches and activities that best support ambitious learning goals for a range of learners. The full-year and supplemental materials we develop are based on national and state standards in mathematics and science. They are all piloted and field tested in real classrooms.

Our work in Teacher Professional Development and School Reform, when coupled with our materials development, provide a strong basis from which teachers, schools, and districts can support rigorous learning opportunities for each student.

Grounded in Scientific Research About What Works

Both original Research and current research from the field are important parts of TERC’s curriculum development. Our materials development is supported by research into student thinking and best practices. Our curricula are characterized by an emphasis on inquiry-based learning and teaching in both math and science.

Core Literacies for Life

Our curricula and materials help students develop core literacies in mathematics and science. These build conceptual understandings that can be applied to their lives, and may include:

  • Data literacy
  • Understanding of scientific thinking and processes
  • Problem solving
  • Evidence-based decision making
  • Mathematical fluency
  • An understanding of the natural world
  • Reflection on their own learning

When combined with our work supporting educators and our research into teaching and learning, TERC’s curriculum and materials help foster in students a lifelong engagement with mathematics and science.
